Samagi Janabalawega MP Dr. Harsha de Silva today questioned the government as to why the Cabinet, which decides to offer a valuable Colombo land to artiste Yohani, is not taking action to pay compensation to those whose lives and property were damaged due to the gas explosions.

Addressing a Press Conference the parliamentarian Dr Harsha ponited aiut that although the companies and government ministers declined the allegations that the  composition of the gas was altered, the report of the committee appointed by the President finally revealed that the cause of the explosions was to change the composition of the gas.  Dr. Harsha De Silva pointed out that the main reason for this crisis was the intention to gain profit

He further stated that the companies had taken steps to change the composition of the gas in order to make more profit by providing the rapidly depleting gas and that several lives have been lost and several houses have been destroyed. However, the government has not yet said a word about compensation for the damage, he said.

“The day before yesterday  another house was burnt due to a gas leak. Many lives were lost. But did the government take action to compensate them? Did you pay any cent? It was decided to give land worth millions to the  Yohani. It was  good decision indeed as  Yohani worked to bring Sri Lanka to the world. She should be given it. But why is the Cabinet, which has decided to give Yohani millions of rupees in Colombo, not talking about compensating for the lives and property lost due to gas accidents? Why not suggest? It is a big issue on the part of the people. Today this whole country is in great turmoil. As a country, we have come to a tragic place, ”said Dr. Harsha de Silva.
