Following the forensic medical examination of the deceased police sergeant from the Colombo Crime Division, who was shot by the Weligama police during theW15 Hotel altercation, the body was handed over to his relatives yesterday (31) night.
Rohan Ruwanpura, Head of the Forensic Medicine Department at Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, reported that the post-mortem examination revealed two bullets in the lungs. These bullets have been sent to the government taster for further investigation.
The forensic expert noted that the cause of death was bleeding from the gunshot wounds. Further analysis is underway to determine the type of firearm used in the shooting.
The deceased police sergeant, Upul Chaminda Kumara (46), was recognized as one of the most talented officers in the criminal investigation department. The post-mortem examination was conducted by Assistant Forensic Officer Vishakha Perera under the supervision of Special Forensic Officer Rohan Ruwanpura.
