The search for missing Sydney couple Jesse Baird and Luke Davies has come to a tragic end as police confirm the discovery of two bodies on a rural property in Bungonia. New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb expressed confidence that the remains belong to Baird and Davies.

Beaumont Lamarre-Condon, a former police officer who previously dated Baird, was charged with murder in connection with the case. Lamarre-Condon led investigators to the bodies after initially refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

Detectives found the bodies near the entrance to the property, concealed under rocks and debris. They believe the couple was transported from Baird’s home in Paddington to the rural location in a white van, which Lamarre-Condon had visited with an acquaintance.

The case, believed to be the first suspected murder involving a New South Wales police officer in decades, has prompted a review of officers’ access to firearms outside of working hours. The revelation has also led to the uninviting of NSW police from Sydney’s Mardi Gras parade, sparking debate over the decision and its implications.

Tributes have poured in for Baird and Davies, both active members of the community. Commissioner Webb acknowledged their contributions and expressed sympathy for their loved ones.

The investigation into the murders continues, with Lamarre-Condon appearing in court and being refused bail.
