Basil Rajapaksa, upon his arrival in Sri Lanka today (05) from the United States, made statements regarding the upcoming presidential election, stating that he does not anticipate a Rajapaksa being nominated for candidacy.

Addressing the media at the airport, Rajapaksa mentioned that he would consult with members of the leading party and its leader in the coming days to decide whether to support the current president’s candidacy or nominate a candidate from within the party. He emphasized that without the backing of the Pohottuwa party, no candidate from the government’s side could stand for the presidential election.

Rajapaksa, who asserted his responsibility in organizing the forthcoming elections, highlighted his return to the country after spending time with his children. He emphasized the importance of rectifying any misconceptions or misunderstandings among the public, stressing that the government has always prioritized honesty and transparency.

“We have never deceived the people. But in some places people did not accept what we said. There were places where we did not accept what the people were saying. They need to be corrected.” He said.
