Responding to the media reports circulated regarding the decision given by the Federal Court of Australia regarding a case assigned against the former Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canberra Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the ministry provides facilities to take home aides for diplomats and said aide of diplomat Himali Arunatilleke had cocomplete her three-year full service and ran away secretly from the diplomat’s home. Issuing a statement The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further says,
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has focused on the news reports that have been published about the decision given by the Federal Court of Australia regarding a case against the former Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Canberra.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that it is normal practice for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide facilities for diplomatic personnel to take home aides in support of their official representation duties. The domestic helper related to this incident had completed three years of full service and secretly ran away from her employer’s official residence the day before her employer was scheduled to leave Australia.
She has been paid the stipend approved by the Ministry as the domestic helper’s salary. The Ministry is satisfied that the employer has paid the salary to the domestic helper as mutually agreed.
