The Colombo Crime Division has arrested a member of the group that had accepted the contract to deport the underworld gang leader Harakkata, along with a police constable who supported the plan to help Harakkata escape from the Criminal Investigation Department.
Furthermore, the Crime Division discovered the vehicle that was prepared to transport Harakkata and the police constable from Colombo to Matara, which had been stopped in front of the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters. This vehicle was traced to the Kekanadura area of Matara and had been provided by the arrested suspect. It was revealed that the car was rented from a local car rental company in Kekanadura.
The individual responsible for picking up the police constable and Harakkata to facilitate their departure from the country was apprehended by the Colombo Crime Division while hiding in the Kesbewa area. This suspect is known to be a heavily drug-addicted member of Harakkata’s gang.
Harakkata’s escape plan from the Criminal Investigation Headquarters on the evening of the 10th was thwarted by a group of police officers, including members of the Police Special Task Force. The investigation into this incident is being led by Colombo Crime Division Director Neville Silva, Assistant Superintendent of Police Dharmakeerthi, Police Inspector Jayathilake, and other officials.
