In connection with the murder of the mother of Janaka Suneth, a radio announcer and journalist, the sister, has been arrested.
The murder occurred on Wednesday (13) morning in Kahawatta, Welladura. The 71-year-old mother was found with throat wounds in her house. She was residing with her unmarried youngest daughter, who works as a development officer. The daughter discovered the body upon returning home from work on Wednesday (13) evening.
The police began investigating the case, and suspicions arose about the daughter, given her departure for work that morning and testimony from neighbors about frequent disputes between the mother and daughter. Following further investigations, the 38-year-old daughter was arrested today (16) morning on suspicion of murder.
The motive for the murder has not been disclosed, and the Kahawatta Police are continuing their investigations
