A team of army doctors has successfully removed what is believed to be the world’s largest and heaviest kidney stone, according to an announcement by the army.
The groundbreaking surgery took place at Colombo Army Hospital a fortnight ago on Thursday (1) earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
The surgical team, led by Dr. Lt. Col. K., Head of the Genitourinary Department, along with urologists Captain (Dr.) WPSC Pathirathne and Dr. Tamansha Premathilaka carried out the procedure. Special Anesthetists Col. (Dr.) U.A.L.D. Perera and Col. (Dr.) CM Abeysinghe provided vital support.
Measuring an impressive 13.372 cm in length and weighing 801 grams, this kidney stone surpasses previous records.
The current Guinness World Records note the largest kidney stone (from India, 2004) as 13 cm long and the heaviest (from Pakistan, 2008) weighing 620 grams, making this achievement truly remarkable.
