Addressing a public rally in Jaffna the Independent presidential candidate Wickramasinghe said
“Anura Dasanayake came and asked for your vote. What did he say? “When the people of the South are lining up for a change, imagine what kind of mood will be established in the people of the South if you become opponents of that change. Do you like Jaffna to call those who oppose that change as those who oppose that change?” Do you like the one called North?
I will assure you again. We are winning. But you have to become part of the victory. Never be against it.”
“This means that Anura Dissanayake is threatening the people of Jaffna. If you don’t vote for me, he will tell you to take care. I condemn that.”
“We came here for the 2010 presidential election. We told the people here to vote for Fonseka. The people voted for Fonseka. The people of the south voted for Mahinda Rajapaksa. Did the people of the South beat you guys? Nothing happened. And they left. Finally, Douglas Devananda was given a ministerial position. So what else do you do?
What did we do in 2015? I said give your vote to Maithripala Sirisena. The people of the south gave it to Mahinda Rajapaksa. We won. Nothing happened.”
“What happened in 2019? Jaffna was given to Sajith Premadasa. The Sinhalese people gave it to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Gotabhaya did not come here with the army. We have always got the same result.”
