Anura Kumara Dissanayake, The leader of National People’s Power (NPP) today said that he was ready to withdraw from president candidacy if two MPs, who has no future political agendas, would be appointed as the President and the Prime Minister.
Addressing the media after a discussion with a group of Galle Face protestors at JVP headquarters that they had discussions with all the political parties for a consensus on appointing a President and Prime Minister who do not have future political agendas.
“ We also proposed to appoint a council comprising of Galle Face protestors to oversee or mediate to resolve the economic and political crisis faced by the country,” he said.
He said they have not given up completely the effort to come to such an agreement and added that he was ready to withdraw his nomination even at the last moment if such a consensus was reached.
He said Ranil Wickremesinghe was attempting to get elected as the President through Parliament and that his moves should be defeated.
