Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Presidential candidate for the National People’s Power (NPP), accused President Ranil Wickramasinghe and other UNP leaders of misusing state property and funds for their election campaign, violating both election laws and basic moral standards.
During a press conference in Colombo on the 19th, Dissanayake claimed that the President is openly ignoring the clear guidelines set by the Election Commission.
Dissanayake stated that despite clear rules from the Election Commission, Ranil Wickramasinghe is using public money and state property without following any of those guidelines. He also noted that although the Supreme Court disqualified Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara from holding Parliament membership, they have been given advisory roles in the same ministries, with all the privileges, including vehicles and funds, despite the Election Commission’s orders against new appointments.
Dissanayake further criticized UNP leaders, including Ruwan Wijewardena, Sagala Ratnayake, Akila Viraj, Ashu Marasinghe, Navin Dissanayake, Manusha Nanayakkara, and Harin Fernando, for using state resources for their election campaign. He also accused the Leader of the Opposition of using the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, a government office, as a party office for the SJB.
Dissanayake said that NPP’s election monitoring organization has repeatedly complained to the Election Commission about these violations.
