Another inmate at Matara Prison has succumbed to brain fever, according to Prison Media Spokesperson Gamini Dissanayake.
The inmate had been admitted to Matara Hospital on the 20th due to fever and passed away Friday (29) night. The deceased was a 53-year-old resident of the Walasmulla area and was incarcerated in connection with a maintenance case.
This incident follows a previous case where an inmate died of brain fever in Matara prison. Currently, only one inmate is receiving treatment at Matara Hospital due to fever. The health department has reportedly taken measures to control the spread of brain fever within Matara Prison.
