An influential police officer is trying to prevent the repatriation of a wanted organised killer, Nadun Chinthana, alias Harak Kata, from Dubai.

Nadun Chintaka had been instrumental in liquidating people who opposed his drug network, police sources said.

It is reported that the deportation of Harakkata, who has been in the custody of the Dubai Police for over a month, has been inordinately delayed due to the involvement of the said police officer and the links Harakkata has with politicos.

Internal sources of the police also reveal that this police officer is said to be in a position of wielding power to influence the Inspector General of Police due to being a loyal pet of the highest level of politics inside the police department. This police officer in question is reported to have been demoted due to disciplinary measures taken previously.

The information further states that this officer has a close link to Harakkata, and this relationship was cultivated when he served in the Weligama Police division that covered Midigama, the home town and stronghold of Harakkata.

It is reported that the process that has been launched to bring Harakkata to Sri Lanka has not progressed and the documents have been stuck in one place.

The relevant documents should be forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Attorney General’s Department as soon as possible, but the fact that it has not been done has also attracted serious attention at the meeting of the very senior police officers held at the police headquarters yesterday (03) under the chairmanship of the Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alas.

However, the Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alas, has directed his ministry secretary to coordinate with the Ministry of Defense and take steps to send the documents necessary for the repatriation of the suspect from Dubai as soon as possible.
