An alarming system to be installed in Pahala Kadugannawa

Authorities are going to install automatic warning alarming system , that signals even in a minor changes in the land slide prone Pahala Kadugannawa area , Director General of the National Building Research Organization Asiri Karunawardena said . It will be consisted with red lights and sirens on both ends of the Kandy Colombo main road he further said.

This signal is designed to be activated as soon as the first signs of an accident emerge from the top of the hill during traffic.

Thew NBRO Director General also said that the internal water has been taken out using horizontal drills to reduce the risk of landslides.

Accordingly, the surface drainage pattern has been restored and the water flowing from the top has been gradually allowed to flow into the lower drainage system, he said.

Dr. Asiri Karunawardena said that discussions are underway to open one lane in case of normal weather conditions and to facilitate traffic.

He pointed out that officers have been deployed to continue to be vigilant in the event of any expansion of the mountain and are planning to provide electric light in dark situations and to install signal devices to sound the siren in case of minor or change.
