Investigation sources have confirmed that the death of the Aheliyagoda Police Station Commander, who was discovered with gunshot wounds yesterday (21) morning in his residence, is a tragic case of suicide.
The late Chief Inspector Priyankara De Silva, aged 42 and father of two, was found lifeless in his home, with the door securely closed and his duty firearm in his hand, marking the somber scene of his passing.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police media spokesperson support the conclusion that this was indeed a suicide. The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are under further examination.
Chief Inspector Priyankara De Silva had previously served as the Station Commander of the Crime Division at Beruwala Police Station and also as the Station Commander of Kalutara North. He took up the role of Station Commander at Aheliyagoda Police on November 21, 2021.
