Emerging actress Harshi Rasanga was arrested by the Thalangama Police today (30) in connection with an incident involving the pawning of a gold necklace worth over Rs. 900,000, allegedly belonging to national cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa, without his consent.
Following her arrest, the suspect was produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court. The Acting Magistrate ordered her release on two surety bonds of Rs. 500,000 each.
According to reports, Rasanga had obtained the gold necklace from Bhanuka Rajapaksa, a well-known cricketer who is said to be a close associate of hers.
The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by Rajapaksa, stating that the necklace had been pawned to a private financial institution in the Battaramulla area for Rs. 600,000 and had not been returned.
Appearing on behalf of the suspect, her lawyer informed the court that his client admitted to pawning the necklace and stated that it could be redeemed and returned to its rightful owner.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the Thalangama Police to recover the gold necklace and present it before the court. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on April 22.
