The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Priyantha Weerasooriya, is planning to investigate organized crimes involving some officers from the Colombo Crime Division. According to police sources, several senior officers in the division are attempting to flee the country to avoid the investigation.
The Acting IGP is expected to begin the investigations next week, after appointing a new Director for the Colombo Crime Division.
However, internal sources within the division say that many officers are uncomfortable with this plan. There is also concern that sensitive documents related to certain investigations might be destroyed.
