A Tsunami warning was triggered following an earthquake of 6.9 magnitudes that happened in Mindanao, the southern part of the Philippines. Evacuation orders were issued for some areas and southwestern Japanese coasts with possible tsunami waves of a meter (3 feet) or more.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) warned waves could hit the Philippines by midnight (1600 GMT) and continue for hours. Accordingly, vulnerable communities living on the coast of southern Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental provinces to evacuate immediately to higher ground or move further inland evacuated to safe areas foreign media said.
Issuing a warning the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that it expects tsunami waves to hit the southern Philippines and parts of Indonesia, Palau, and Malaysia, and some coasts of Japan.
