Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha told Parliament today that a special investigation has been launched by the Child Protection Authority and the Ministry of Education regarding the teacher and principal who were behind the police attack on a group of year 5 children at Gungamuwa Junior College, Ballathuda, Horana Milleniya.
The Minister said that the Child Protection Authority has started its investigations into this attack that took place on February 02, and they have already contacted the school.
In addition, according to the instructions given by the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, a team consisting of an Additional Director of the Western Province, an Investigation Officer of the Ministry of Education, and an Additional Director of the Zonal Office will conduct a separate investigation, the minister said.
A circular has been issued giving guidelines to children on how to behave at school. This incident is not an incident where the police should be called… This was told to the police when such a circular was issued. During the investigation, all the facts will come to light. The minister said.
In addition to the nutrition program, 144 schools were covered and teachers were given a total of 03 days of education on drug prevention and guidance. A workshop on how to recognize a student’s mind was also held in Colombo schools, and the program will eventually cover the whole country. The minister also said that the program would be expanded.
The Police Media Spokesman previously said that a separate investigation is being conducted under an Assistant Superintendent of Police. This investigation is regarding the police officers who allegedly carried out the attack on the children at the Horanan school.
