Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has decided to forward the proposal to increase the annual medical insurance amount of the members of parliament to 1 million rupees to the cabinet , Lankadeepa newspaper reports.
According to the sources the Speaker has informed this when the issue was discussed in the House Committee of the Parliament.
Currently a Member of Parliament entitled to have a two hundred thousand worth medical insurance.
Many MPs have pointed out to the speaker that the insurance amount is not sufficient at all as all medical services have increased under the current economic situation.
