A person who aided and abetted the shooting that took place on the 12th near the RIU Hotel in Ahungalle, which is thought to be one of several murders being carried out by a group of drug traffickers targeting police informants, has been apprehended by the Police Special Task Force.

Accordingly, a 41-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday (15) by a group of officers of the Special Task Force Southern Province Special Operations Unit at Talpadiwela, Meghathanna, in the Meghathanna police area.

A trishaw driver, Padanchi Pradeep Kumar (40), of Ahungalla Galvehera Road, was shot near the hotel recently. He was shot in his trishaw in the three-wheeler parking lot in front of Ahungalla RIU Tourist Hotel.

The police said that the shooting was accidental and that the person concerned was shot because of mistaken identity. The Ahungalla Police later confirmed during the police investigation that the three-wheeler driver who was the target of the gunshot was not involved in any wrongdoing.

The Police Special Task Force said that investigations conducted so far confirmed that a bald Kumar resident of Ahungalla, Middaramulla was the target of the assailants and that the trishaw driver who was shot was also a Kumar and bald-headed.

However, the suspected hired assassin involved in the incident was shot dead by the police special task force last Thursday (13) at Bandarawatta, Balapitiya.

The deceased was Mahesh Indika Prabhat (36) of Patuwana Kammachari, residing at No. 3/33, Devrampe, Thanamalwila.
