President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the leaders and representatives of 11 political parties led by former ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila and Wasudva Nanayakkara will hold a crucial discussion today (10) on whether to remove the current Prime Minister and form an interim government under a new Prime Minister.
They have stated that they will support the impeachment motion against the President and the no-confidence motion against the government if the President does not take a firm decision in this regard today.
The 11 political parties have requested the President to appoint an interim government for a specific period of time based on the current situation in the country.
A leader of the group told Lankasara that the President had not yet responded to the request and that he was ready to give a definite answer at today’s discussion.
In a letter to the President of the 11 Parties, the President, on the advice of the National Executive Council, decides on government policies, decision making, and the establishment of a National Executive Council consisting of parties represented in Parliament, with a limited number of Ministries to run the interim government and their scope. The letter was handed over to the President by 11 parties recently.
He added that a final agreement would be reached today on the contents of this article.
