The referee of rugby encounter between Trinity College, Kandy and St. Thomas’ College, Mt has lodged a complint with the Narahenpita Police regarding the assault by a young woman and the girl named Nuwandana Tantirige has been summoned to give a statement next Thursday, police sources said.
If she does not appear on the summons, the police are ready to arrest her and record her statement.
The girl is said to be the sister of the vice captain of the Trinity College team.
The clash erupted when the umpires said the match was over a few minutes earlier. However, the frenzy has begun with the St. Thomas ‘team defeating the leading Trinity team who was 14-3 at the end of the first half but after the second half Thomians claimed their victory by17-14 victory.
The video showed the young woman and several others attacking the umpires who were coming out of the defense after the match. It is reported that the principals of both schools have decided to hold disciplinary inquiries into the incident.
