Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Justice has received a proposal to establish a care center for cattle freed from slaughterhouses at the controversial Malwana mansion which one time claimed to be owned by former minister Basil Rajapakse Sunday Mawbima newspaper reports.
As the property has been confiscated by a court decision, this proposal has been forwarded to the Ministry’s legal department, a senior official has said to the paper.
The official said that the Ministry of Justice cannot make a decision regarding this land and that the opinion of the Attorney General’s Department will be consulted and the next steps will be taken.
Malwana House and Land has requested a livestock officer who performed duties in the animal farms of the Department of Animal Production and Health to provide food and medicine to the dairy cows and heifers who are freed from the slaughterhouses after paying the price.
The request has indicated that the Malwana land and buildings confiscated by a court order are suitable for running the cattle care center.
