The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) writes to the Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe urging that he should step down with the consultation of the Speaker.
The FUTA urged the Acting President to pledge to the people of this country that he will not offer himself as a candidate when Parliament meets to appoint a new President on July 20.
In the letter the FUTA further states,
“Sri Lanka is facing a severe economic and political crisis. Although the people are suffering, the political leadership of the country has miserably failed to steer the country towards any kind of stability during this time. The ill-thought-out and arbitrary policies of the Rajapaksa regime and the corruption and violence that characterised that regime are the main causes of this failure.
