Today (18) afternoon 32 shell casings used for T-56 firearms were found in a garbage truck belonging to the Kandy Municipal Council which entered the premises of the Temple of the Tooth Relic along Raja Street.
The driver and the two assistants of the garbage truck have been arrested by the police.
The 32 ammunition casings were found in a small fertilizer bag in the lorry during an inspection conducted by the officers of the Rajaveediya police post before entering the lorry to the premises.
Under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Chamil Ratnayake in charge of the Kandy Division, a team including the Station Commander of Temple of the Tooth Relic Police, Chief Inspector A. Senadheera, is conducting further investigations.
