The Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission has granted permission to increase electricity tariffs by 18 percent, marking a significant revision in domestic electricity pricing effective immediately.
As of today (20), the revised domestic electricity tariffs are as follows:
1. 0-30 Units: Fixed charge has been increased from Rs. 150 to Rs. 180, with the price per unit set at 12 rupees (previously 10 rupees).
2. 31-60 Units: The fixed fee rises from Rs. 300 to Rs. 360, and the cost per unit is now 30 rupees (formerly 25 rupees).
3. 61-90 Units: Fixed charges have been elevated from Rs. 400 to Rs. 480, and the unit price is 41 rupees (previously 35 rupees).
4. 91-120 Units: Fixed charges have increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,180, and the new unit price is 59 rupees (formerly 50 rupees).
5. 121-180 Units: Fixed charges have been adjusted from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 1,770, with the unit price now at 59 rupees (previously 50 rupees).
6. Over 180 Units: Fixed charges have surged from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 2,360, and the unit price stands at 89 rupees (formerly 75 rupees).
The Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission has confirmed that this electricity tariff increase will remain in effect from today (20) until June 30, 2024. This decision has been made to address financial considerations and sustain the stability of the electricity supply in the country.
