Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment says at least 70 percent of the people in the country must develop immunity to control Covid 19 disease requiring that percentage of the population to receive the Covid 19 vaccinations. “However it is a difficult task for a country” he said.

He points out that the medical scientific opinion is that in order to build immunity against a certain pathogenic virus, 70 percent of the population in a country should be vaccinated or 70 percent of the population should be immunized against the disease.

The Secretary emphasizes that in order to control Covid 19 disease, at least 50 percent of the population should be vaccinated and the entire population should adhere to the Health Guidelines.
