Minister of State Dayasiri Jayasekara said that a tax will be levied on imported readymade garments from April 01.

“We hope to introduce a special tax on readymade garments imported to Sri Lanka from April 1. That is being implemented to protect local readymade garment traders. Necessary steps are being taken to stop the importation of substandard garments to Sri Lanka. The tax system is expected to increase the price of an item costing 200 rupees to at least 450 rupees” he said.
