Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal today ordered to the IGP to arrest State Minister Sanath Nishantha immediately and produce him in to the court.
The order was issued following the State Minister Nishantha has failed to appear in court on Today (13) for te case file against him over his remarks made on Judiciary and the Magistrates.
The Judicial Services Commission and multiple Counsel filed petitions with the Court of Appeal claiming that State Minister Sanath Nishantha’s comments brought disrepute to the Judiciary and the Magistrates, during a press conference convened at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Nelum Mawataha Head Office.
The Court of Appeal had ordered the State Minister to appear in court on Thursday (13) to provide reasons as to why the court should not impose any punishment on him for the contempt of court allegations mentioned in the petitions. However he did not appear in the courts today.
The application was called up in the presence of Court of Appeal Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, and R. Gurusinghe.
State Minister Sanath Nishantha did not appear in court, and therefore the Inspector General of Police was ordered to immediately arrest the State Minister.
