The National Audit Office has started the work of conducting a complete audit investigation regarding the erroneous economic policies and decisions of the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa government, which triggered the biggest economic crisis in history.
The Auditor General, WPC Wickramaratne, has stated that this investigation will begin according to the direction given to the Auditor General by the Supreme Court recently. A team of officers led by a Deputy Auditor General has been appointed for this purpose.

The team will carry out a full audit of the decisions taken by the government led by the former president to suppress and hold the value of the rupee at 203 rupees against the US dollar for a long period of time and the impact it had on the factors that led to the delay in the decision to go to the International Monetary Fund for assistance. Also, in January of this year, when the foreign exchange crisis in the country was severe, the Supreme Court ordered an audit of the decision made regarding the payment of the money related to the US$ 500 million bond to its beneficiaries.
The Supreme Court decided to proceed with the case filed by Transparency International holding former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Finance Ministers Mahinda Rajapaksa and Basil Rajapaksa, former Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal, Minister Ali Sabri and other officials responsible for the unprecedented economic crisis in the history of Sri Lanka and, accordingly, the court ordered the auditor to conduct an audit on the above aspects and submit a report.
