The Public Health Inspectors Association says it’s wise to protect yourself from Covid 19 before you accept your loved one’s Valentine’s Day gift tomorrow (14). The Covid virus has the ability to remain on any surface for up to 72 hours, so the virus can stay in the souvenir you give, Upul Rohana, president of the association said.

A study conducted by the University of Jayewardenepura has revealed that new strains of the coronavirus that are currently spreading in Britain have been reported in several parts of Sri Lanka. “This could result in lovers becoming Covid patients” he added.

According to the information received so far, most of the rooms in the lodges have been booked by lovers and no one knows how safe the lodges are, he said. Upul Rohana also said that it is important to always follow the health care instructions as the covid virus is likely to be hidden in the lodge or in the souvenirs given to you.

He added that many people who attended various weddings and other events recently had reported an increase in the number of cases due to the virus. Due to this, if lovers gather in clusters to celebrate Valentine’s Day, it is inevitable that a very dangerous situation will be created in the country in the next few days, he added.
