The family members of late veteran Sri Lankan actress Malini Fonseka have expressed concern over the film being produced based on her life, stating that senior members of the family have neither been consulted nor allowed to review the screenplay prepared by producer Jayantha Dharmadasa.
On behalf of the family, actress Samanalee Fonseka, a close relative of the late actress, has issued an official statement regarding the film Rajiniye, which is being produced by Jayantha Dharmadasa and is based on the life story of Malini Fonseka.
Samanalee Fonseka shared the statement on her social media account.
According to the statement, filming has commenced without informing the family members or providing them with the complete screenplay for review. The film is being directed by Aruna Jayawardena.
Samanalee Fonseka alleged that the production of Rajiniye began arbitrarily, in blatant violation of a promise made to provide the script to the family. She further claimed that Malini Fonseka’s name was being used in a derogatory manner for promotional purposes.
“The family strongly condemns this highly unethical and deceptive act, which has been carried out while disregarding Malini Fonseka’s siblings and other family members,” the statement said.
The statement further noted that exploiting the life story of a great artiste who dedicated her entire life to the cinema for the personal advancement of a few individuals and for commercial gain after her death is contrary to the ethical values of the artistic community.
