Lalith Chaminda-
Seven packets suspected to be ice or heroin were found in the stomach of an inmate who died after being admitted to the Karapitiya National Hospital due to a sudden illness at the Galle Prison.
The deceased was a 59-year-old inmate. The suspicious packets were found during the post-mortem examination, and the investigation units suspect that the deceased inmate had swallowed these drug parcels in the prison.

The post-mortem examination was conducted by the Assistant Judicial Medical Officer of the Galle National Hospital, G.S. Chathurangani, and an open conclusion was given regarding the inmate’s death.
Steps have been taken to refer the inmate’s blood, urine, and body parts, including the suspicious packets found in the stomach, to the Government Medical Examiner for further investigation. The Galle Police are conducting further investigations into this incident.
