The Office of the Comptroller General has revealed that government institutions across Sri Lanka own a total of 96,027 vehicles, of which 46,708 are more than 15 years old.
The Office further stated that 3,911 vehicles in the state fleet are currently not in running condition.
Meanwhile, the government has taken steps to dispose of state-owned luxury vehicles that remain in good operating condition but incur high maintenance costs. These vehicles have been sold in accordance with the directives issued under the Asset Management Circulars.
According to data released by the Office of the Comptroller General, the government has generated total revenue of Rs. 4,040.9 million from the sale of government-owned vehicles and other assets during the past 16 months.
Of this amount, Rs. 3,312.8 million was earned from the sale of vehicles alone.
