Cricket Selection Committee Chairman Upul Tharanga told the media that he tried till the last moment to get selected till the last moment to get selected Kusal Janith Perera in the final 15 of the T20 squad but had to allow into the wishes of the captain and the coach at the last moment.
Joining today’s media briefing, Upul Tharanga said:
“Kusal is a player we looked up to until the last moment. He was not successful when he played for Sri Lanka in the finals. But he is a very good player. Yes… we stayed until the last chance.
No matter what 15 we choose, they will have to work in the middle of the field. We need to see their side as well.
It was only after talking with the captain and the coach that the last fifteen and the travel reserve were selected.
I think Kusal Janith is unfortunate that the team could not make it.
