A young suspect was fatally shot by officers from the Police Special Task Force during a raid on Sumedha Mawatha, Ganemulla last night (21).
According to police reports, the deceased, identified as a 28-year-old youth from Bulagahapitiya area in Aheliyagoda, was shot dead during a shootout. The encounter occurred during a planned operation targeting a suspect wanted for a crime, who had previously attempted to shoot and kill an individual in the Dandugama area of Ja-Ala Police Domain on March 9th.
The raid, led by officers from the Gonahena Police Special Task Force, resulted in gunfire exchange, leading to the fatal shooting of the suspect. Additionally, an officer from the Police Special Task Force sustained injuries during the operation and has been admitted to Ragama Hospital for treatment.
Ganemulla police have initiated further investigations into the incident.
