The Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team faced a significant defeat in the Asian Cup held in Dubai, succumbing to Bangladesh with a margin of six wickets and 55 balls to spare. Sri Lanka only scored a total of 200 runs.

The Sri Lankan youth, who had secured a victory against the Japanese team but suffered a loss against the United Arab Emirates team, faced challenges from the outset against Bangladesh. Notably, no Sri Lankan batsman managed to secure a substantial score, with the highest innings at 28 runs by opener Pulindu Perera.

Bangladesh’s Vasi Siddaqui played a pivotal role, scoring 32 runs and claiming three wickets. The Bangladeshi youngsters easily surpassed the 200-run target in 40.5 overs, led by an outstanding performance from opener Ashiqur Rahman Shibli, who scored an unbeaten 116 with 11 fours and 2 sixes.

This defeat has prompted reflections on the state of cricket in Sri Lanka, with sentiments expressing a lack of hope or confidence in the country’s cricketing future. The disappointment has led to broader contemplation about the nation’s current circumstances and aspirations for the future.
