The CID arrested the clerk of the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court last night (13) for allegedly preparing and submitting a fake document to the Immigration Controller. The document claimed that a foreign travel ban had been lifted by the Fort Magistrate, allowing a suspect involved in a crime to leave the country.
The arrest came following an investigation initiated based on a complaint filed by an officer of the Fort Magistrate’s Court to the CID.
The case began when the Fort Magistrate had imposed a travel ban on a suspect involved in a criminal case after finding them guilty of related charges. Subsequently, a complaint was made to the secret police that the registrar of the Fort Magistrate’s Court had fabricated and submitted false documents to the Immigration Controller, falsely indicating that the travel ban had been lifted.
The CID carried out its investigations and arrested the registrar of the Fort Magistrate’s Court. She is set to be presented before the court as the investigation continues.
