Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Two Police Special Task Force Officers

An accident occurred yesterday (09) when a police Special Task Force (STF) jeep collided with a cow at the Velikulam area on the Vavuniya-Horovpatana road causing two STF officers lost their lives in the accident, while seven others sustained injuries.

The injured individuals were promptly admitted to Vavuniya General Hospital for medical treatment.

The two officers who tragically lost their lives in this incident were identified as Supun Pradipana, a resident of Medawachchiya Railway Town (Badge number: POCO 38778), and Yapa Mudiansela, who served at the Madukanda Camp of the Police Special Task Force. The third casualty was Hasita Dinesha Madhusanka, a resident of Kurunegala, Badge number: Kirimatiavia. 27287.

The accident unfolded when a group of officers from the Madukanda camp was traveling in the same jeep towards Vavuniya city at approximately 10 pm. Due to the rain, several cows were lying on the highway.

Tragically, one of the cows collided with the jeep, resulting in the immediate death of the cow. Subsequently, the jeep went out of control and struck a nearby wall, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

Vavuniya police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
