Younger Brother Stabs Older Brother to Death

Younger brother arrested for murder

A dispute between two brothers resulted in the younger brother fatally stabbing his elder brother yesterday (06) night, according to the Mapitiya Police. This incident has occured in Dimbulagala Palatiawa village.

The victim of the stabbing has been identified as Amila Prabhat Premaratne, an unmarried 28-year-old resident of address number 571 in Dimbulagala Sanshiyawa village.

Following their investigation, Inspector Asela Sarath Kumara, the Superintendent of Police of Manampitiya Police, stated that the younger brother, aged 24, was arrested on the today (07) morning under suspicion of murder. He will be presented before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.

According to the preliminary findings of the Manampitiya Police, it is believed that the elder brother frequently intoxicated, would verbally abuse and harass their parents. The younger brother, unable to endure the ongoing mistreatment, allegedly stabbed his elder brother, resulting in his death.

The police report indicates that the murder took place in front of their house while the younger brother was cutting a betel nut.

Under the guidance of North Central Province Senior DIG Rajitha Sri Daminda and North Central Province DIG Laksiri Wijesena, a team of police officers led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Chanaka de Silva from Polonnaruwa is conducting further investigations into this distressing incident.
