Sri Lanka’s Tourism Boom in 2024

Sri Lanka earned approximately 3.17 billion U.S. dollars from tourism in 2024, latest statistics from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) show. This marks a 53.2 percent increase compared to tourism earnings from 2023, which was about 2.07 billion dollars. The CBSL data also revealed that over two million tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2024, up 38.1 percent compared to 2023.

The Sri Lankan government is targeting 5 billion dollars in tourism revenue in 2025 by attracting 3 million tourists, as tourism officials recently stated.

A photograph of former Brazilian football star Ronaldo Nazario enjoying a safari at a Sri Lankan national park has been circulating widely on social media. SriLankan Airlines also shared an image of Ronaldo with their flight crew during a recent trip, calling it a “pleasure” to have him onboard. “The former Brazilian professional football player joined a comfortable journey with SriLankan Airlines,” the airline said.

Ronaldo, affectionately known as R9, is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time. His illustrious career includes three FIFA World Player of the Year awards and two Ballon d’Or titles.
