Posting on his official social media page Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has reminded President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that it is a dangerous practice to traverse through open terrain with the enemy just ahead.

“During the battle to liberate the Jaffna Fort in 1991, when you decided to travel across open terrain with the enemy right ahead and faced trouble, it was the 1st Sinha regiment and I that saved you and your battalion” he posted. “Today, 30 years later, in 2021, in the political arena, I hope you will not make the same mistake again” Fonseka added.

Fonseka noted that the command and control of the President’s camp have broken down leading to the 6.9 Million who voted for Rajapaksa to ridicule him, leaving him politically isolated. “Your power-hungry regime will be destroyed by that power itself,” he said.

Fonseka went on to warn the President saying “Therefore, my advice to Gotabhaya is not to encroach on the democratic rights of the political leaders and comrades of the common opposition, including myself, at a time when the country is in a difficult situation and to escalate further issues and crises in the country.”
