Yuan Wang 5 arrives in Hambantota!

Yuan Wang 5, the controversial Chinese research and survey vessel, arrived at the Hambantota Port this morning after the Sri Lanka authorities gave the green light to the ship to dock at the Port for replenishments.

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has organised  a welcoming ceremony for the arrival of the Chinese vessel at the port of Hambantota with the participation of the envoy of China to Colombo and other dignitaries. Reporters say that there were recorded number of local and foreign reporters also were present at the Hambantota port to cover the event this morning.

The ship initially scheduled to arrive on August 11 was delayed by a few days after the Foreign Ministry requested the ship to differ its arrival until the conclusion of further consultations.

The proposed arrival of the ship led to a near diplomatic standoff between Sri Lanka and India. Nevertheless, India softened its stand later, stating that Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation and it could decide whether to allow the ship or not.

Delayed due to diplomatic Manouvereing, the ship arrived this morning.

However, India said they are well equipped to handle any situation that may cause due to the arrival of the Yaan Wang 5 ta the Hambantota Port.
