A young man amazed onlookers by hanging on the rope of a kite and soaring approximately 80 feet in the sky in Thondamanaru, Jaffna.
A group of youths from the Thondamanaru area had crafted a massive kite, about 40 feet high, intending to participate in a kite competition held at Valvettithura, Jaffna. Due to a technical glitch, they couldn’t submit the kite on the scheduled date.
As a result, the group decided to showcase the kite in the sky near Thondamanaru kovil. During the display, a daring young man climbed along the kite’s string, hovering above the Thondamanaru kovil, paying his respects, and then safely descending using the same rope.
This spectacle drew a mixed reaction from the crowd—some cheering in excitement, while others expressed concern for the young man’s safety. Notably, similar stunts involving kite ropes have been attempted in Jaffna in the past, adding an element of thrill to local kite-flying traditions.
It’s worth mentioning that while such displays bring joy to spectators, safety precautions should be a priority to prevent accidents or injuries.
