Will not take any Ministry – Champika Ranawaka says at the exit from SJB

Former Minister MP  Champika Ranawaka leaving the main opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya and said that he will function as an independent opposition MP hereafter. Making a special statement in the Parliament today he further said that in was in line with the MOU he signed with Smagi Jana Balawegaya.

Announcing his decision, Ranawaka said that he left the party with the consent of the SJB leader and :Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa.

“I informed [Premadasa] of my decision a few days ago. We joined the SJB alliance in March 2020 according to an MOU. This separation is per that same MOU. I have always worked with my conscience. More than ever, both the government and the opposition have to act responsibly in parliament. The objective in my becoming independent was to facilitate that.

“Some media and social media have claimed that I did this to get a ministry in the government. There is no truth whatever to those interpretations. I have no wish to hold any portfolio in this government

MP Ranawaka called for an all-party, interim government for the betterment of the country as well as it’s people.
