Minister Wijeyadasa names a person who received $250 million to hush up the X-Press pearl matter

The Minister of Justice revealed in Parliament today (25) the name of the person to whom the marine insurance company has allegedly given 250 million dollars in order to avoid lawsuits by the Sri Lankan government.

The Sri Lankan government was to seek compensation for the massive marine pollution caused by the cargo ship X-press Pearl.

Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe named this person Chamara Gunasekara. He said he received information that about 250 million dollars have been credited to his account number 15479334 in England.

“I have been challenged to disclose the names of those involved in this fraudulent act. As the Minister of Justice, I respect the law and I believe that It should be disclosed by the police.”

“This is not a piece of evidence. This is information. I do not accept responsibility for this disclosure. This is information. I do not know whether this is evidence or not. We need to determine whether it is evidence or not following a police investigation.”

“This information is being investigated by the Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department on the orders of the Inspector General of Police.” The minister said
