Harsha de Silva has strongly dismissed speculation that he is preparing to join the Government, insisting that his political future remains firmly within the centre-right political camp and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
Issuing a statement on his political future, Dr. Harsha said that although no one in his family had been involved in politics, he entered public life at a young age, driven by a deep passion to see Sri Lanka become a developed nation.
He stressed that his political decisions would never be guided by narrow political gains, adding that certain groups appeared to be attempting to push him away from the centre-right movement.
“That will never happen. My politics will definitely move forward to the point of one day giving leadership to that camp,” he said, in what is being viewed as a significant hint about his long-term political ambitions.
Dr. Harsha also launched a strong criticism of the current Government, describing it as a “failure” lacking a far-sighted economic vision. He argued that the country could not be rebuilt through “crooked ideas that are not open to the world,” warning that the shortcomings of the administration would become more visible in the future.
Rejecting rumours of crossover talks, he stated that he had never engaged in any discussion about joining the Government and claimed that such propaganda was aimed at creating internal divisions within the SJB.
He further pledged to intensify his struggle against the Government while promoting a progressive political culture that supports constructive policies instead of opposing everything blindly.
Emphasizing that the country needs “a new era,” Dr. Harsha said he is prepared to take on any difficult challenge for the sake of the nation and reiterated his commitment to building a prosperous and economically developed Sri Lanka.
