Victoria dam at risk due to tremors in Kandy

Geologists warn that the area where the Victoria Reservoir is located in the Kandy District is in danger. They attribute this to the gradual increase in the number of earthquakes in the reservoir areas this year.

During the period from the beginning of this year to the end of November, four earthquakes were recorded in the area.Athula Senaratne, Senior Professor, Department of Geology, University of Peradeniya, said that a formal investigation should be carried out as there is a risk of the dam being affected by earthquakes.

The report submitted outlines a number of recommendations that need to be implemented immediately.
