Veteran Actress Susantha Chandramali Passes Away at 61

Veteran Sri Lankan actress Susantha Chandramali has passed away at the age of 61, according to family sources. She had been battling a long illness and succumbed to complications related to her condition.

Chandramali was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. Although she initially recovered following treatment, the disease resurfaced, and she has been undergoing medical care in recent months.

She began her acting career in the late 1980s, starring in popular teledramas such as Charulatha and Kandegedara, quickly earning a place in the hearts of Sri Lankan audiences. After appearing in numerous teledramas, she made her film debut in 2000 with the movie Saroja directed by Somaratne Dissanayake. Over the years, she established herself as a respected figure in the entertainment industry.

Her daughter, Thisuri Yuvanika, is also a well-known actress.

Born in Mulkirigala, Hambantota district, Chandramali was not only active in acting but also in politics. She once contested the Southern Provincial Council election, representing Hambantota under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Her passing marks a great loss to the Sri Lankan entertainment industry, as she leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances that will be cherished by generations of fans.
